Competitive analysis โCritical Findings (TL;DR)
The product is real, deep, and culturally Pakistan-specific. It does what most "AI education" apps only claim. The CSR/NGO pitch on the /ngo page is already excellent โ it just needs an outbound sales motion + case-study proof points. The biggest gap is proof points: completed batches, named partner logos, anonymized outcomes data. Add these and you can walk into JICA and World Bank offices tomorrow.
๐ด Critical โ Ship-Blockers
- Auth gate is client-side only. All 94 /student/* routes return 200 + login page when unauthenticated. No server-side redirect, no 401. Anyone hitting /student/dashboard directly gets the login page rendered โ but API endpoints may be unprotected. Fix: Add server middleware on /student/* that redirects to /login (302) unless session cookie is valid. Check /api/* parity.
- No proof points on the marketing site or /ngo page. Every pitch says "we can deliver, track, prove" โ but no named NGO/UN partners, no cohort completion stats, no named graduates, no public batch numbers. The /ngo page reads like a capability brochure, not a track record. Fix: Add a "Proof" section: "First cohort graduated X people in Y weeks, Z% placed, W partner orgs" โ even if it's just the AI Pakistan Summer 2026 batch.
- Streak data shows "1-day streak" for a user on the platform since June 2026. 4 months in the program, 1-day streak. Either the streak system is wrong or the platform loses engagement. Check the actual cohort retention curve. If real, the /ngo claims about "auto-nudge engine reduces dropout" need a baseline number.
๐ High Priority
- 94 routes in 11 nav groups is too much. Users see the same icons/links repeated in multiple groups (Dashboard appears in sidebar + header). Some links are stubs (battles shows 0W/0L). Fix: 4-tier IA โ see Section 6.
- Two nav menus coexist: the top header (Why Maahir, Tracks, Curriculum, etc.) and the left sidebar (11 groups). The top header is the public marketing IA, the sidebar is the student-area IA. After login, the top header still shows marketing links that take you OUT of the app to marketing pages. Fix: Replace top header nav with student-area links when logged in (Dashboard, Learn, Earn, Mastery, Account).
- "Maahir Score 67" is opaque. What does 67 mean? Above average? Below? No percentile, no cohort comparison. Same for #72 rank โ is #72 of 100 or 10,000? Fix: Add percentile ("Top 8% of batch"), weekly trend arrows, and a 30-day sparkline.
- 61 unread notifications. Either the notification system generates noise or it's never been cleaned. Open it โ if it's mostly nudge messages, the streak warning shows the pattern.
๐ข What's Strong
- Role-play scenarios are gold. 9,259 scenarios covering 18 skills ร 20 contexts ร 24 roles ร 3 levels. The "Everyone Is Admin" IT lead vs operations head scenario is culturally perfect โ 20-year veteran ops head, Lahore trading company, real Pakistani office dynamics. Few global edtech platforms have this depth of local context.
- 17-language support including Pashto, Sindhi, Saraiki, Balochi, Hindko, Kashmiri, Shina, Balti, Burushaski, Wakhi, Khowar. This is genuinely rare for any platform. The local-language pitch is real for KPK, Balochistan, GB, AJK, Sindh.
- Maahir Works (real paid projects). 5 open real projects from real Pakistani businesses (Lahore Bakery Rs 15-25K, Karachi Clinic Rs 20-35K, Peshawar Hardware Rs 25-40K, Multan Textiles Rs 8-12K, Islamabad Boutique Rs 10-15K). This is the killer proof point for "Earn" โ it's not a course about freelancing, it's a platform with real gigs.
- The /ngo page is already the right pitch. It has scenario papers for 25+ donor categories, each with the exact alignment language a JICA program officer or EU project manager would want to hear.
- Credentials / Skills Passport. Public, verifiable, sharable profile. Schools, employers, and donors can verify what someone actually did. Key upgrade: add a "view public passport at /u/<username>" URL with OG tags so it works as a portfolio.
For Donors, CSR Heads, NGO Program Officers
Go straight to Section 3 โ NGO / CSR Funding Playbook. It maps every major donor type to: their priority language, the SDG they fund, what Maahir delivers, the cost-per-beneficiary argument, the proof point they need, and the exact 3-sentence pitch to use.
For the Maahir Team (Munaf, Dev Team)
Work through this in order:
- Section 6 โ Navigation โ biggest visible improvement, lowest effort.
- Section 5 โ App vs Marketing โ what to fix on the marketing site so the claims are verifiable.
- Section 4 โ Marketing Analysis โ page-by-page QA of maahir.io.
- Section 2 โ Feature Encyclopedia โ read for accuracy, fix any misdescribed feature.
- Then build a Proof Points dashboard using the AI Pakistan Summer 2026 cohort's real numbers.
